We hiked to Saw Mill on the 1st night. We were greeted with a panoramic view of the Denver metro area lights at night. The next day, we hiked to Sourdough Equestrian camp. We worked on Scout skills (including fire lighting and knife and axe work), rank advancement and went bouldering. Great weather and a great time in our own back yard. 2010, March: Four Corners (Closed) and Sand dunes Spring Break
2010, February: Skiing at Loveland 16 of us hit the slopes at Loveland. Many earned the snow sports merit badge before we split into smaller groups and owned the mountain! December 2009: Snowshoeing at Echo Lake The Buzz: As always, Klondike promises to be quite an exciting event. We will be gathering with hundreds of fellow Scouts for a weekend of awesome winter camping! The theme for this year will be Jesters in Love (it's over Valentines Day weekend). The weekend will feature great events (including the prestigous sled race) for the patrols, an opportunity to gather with other Scouts from around our area and a really great time in the snow! 2009, November: Mammoth Gulch We drove above Nederland to Mammoth Gulch. After finding a campsite deep in the snow, we set up camp and started fires. After camp was set, a few folks tended the fires and cooked for the group while the rest of us hit the trail for some winter orienteering and hiking in the snow. The unsuspecting hiker was usually the victim of flying snowballs, but all seemed to have fun. After 5 miles, we returned to camp for hot chocolate, dinner and time around a fire. 2009, October: Camporee
2009, September: Ouzel Falls
2009, August: Tubing and climbing A day floating down the Saint Vrain is always a good thing. This has become an annual favorite for the boys in the troop. We get on the river a few miles above the town of Lyons and finish at a park on the far side of town where we ate lunch and spent more time in the river. 2009, July: Red Feather Lakes Another night hike to start the weekend. We hiked towards Beaver Creek to make camp. Fortunately we were well prepared and had lots of water. Unfortunately, the creek was lower than the Ranger Station said it was. In fact it was dry. We made camp Friday night and shared water to cook breakfast and hike out. We filled up on water again and found a new site with plenty of water access. Lots of great time around a campfire and great scenery. 2009, June: Summer Camp Camp was great. We had 31 Scouts earn over 100 merit badges from shooting to Horsemanship to Photography, Emergency Preparedness, Camping....... One patrol won the dutch oven contest for the camp. Scouts took 2 overnights to Monster Mountain, climbed the COPE High Rope course fished and had a great time. 2009, May: White Ranch
April 2009: Moab Biking and Hiking Spring Break Getaway
The Buzz: This will be our fourth trip to Moab and it is always a highlight of the year! The trip is four days long over spring break for Jeffco Schools. The first day we travel out to Moab, Utah and set up camp at Green River State Park. The next day we go Mountain biking in Moab, the mountain biking capital of the world. Day three is hiking in Arches National Park, which is a great chance to see some incredibly unique natural landmarks. On day four we travel home and go out to a buffet for lunch. Moab is a great first campout and also a good time to start the Cycling Merit Badge. An outstanding Spring Break. We took mountain bikes for 34 participants with us from Arvada. We rode 6 miles on a trail including lunch at Gemini Bridges. The crew finished the bike ride just as the rain opened up. The day was completed with ice cream in town. The next day was spent hiking Arches National Park and, of course, rank advancement. Finally we ate our way through Golden Corral in Grand Junction on the way home. Nothing is better than all you can eat bacon. Dates: April 2-5, 2009 Departure: Thursday, April 2, 2009 at approx. 9:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m.; Susan M.
