Order of the Arrow Troop Representative


Senior Patrol Leader (SPL)

Job Description: The Senior Patrol Leader is elected by the Scouts to represent them as the top leader in the Troop. He is basically the head honcho.

Requirements: To be Senior Patrol Leader, a Scout must have achieved the First Class rank and be elected by the other Scouts in the Troop.

Duties:

  • Run Troop meetings, campouts, activities, Patrol Leaders Councils and Annual Planning Conferences
  • Appoints other Troop leaders with the advice of the Scoutmaster
  • Assigns responsibilities to other Troop leaders
  • Sets a good example
  • Wears the Boy Scout uniform correctly
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Scout Law
  • Shows Scout spirit

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL)

Job Description: The Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders are the second highest leaders in the Troop. The ASPL acts as the SPL in his absence or when called upon. They also provide leadership to the other leaders. One of the ASPLs is in charge of Program and the other is in charge of administration.

Requirements: To be Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, a Scout must be appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader.

Duties:

  • Helps the Senior Patrol Leader lead meetings, campouts, and activities
  • Performs the duties of SPL in his absence
  • Serves in the Patrol Leader's Council
  • Sets a good example
  • Wears the Scout uniform correctly
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Scout Law
  • Shows Scout spirit

Patrol Leader

Job Description: The Patrol Leader is, in a sense, the SPL of his patrol. He leads and helps to plan Patrol meetings, service projects, and leads his patrol on campouts.

Requirements: The Patrol Leader is elected by the other Scouts in his patrol. Anyone may run for Patrol Leader.

Duties:

  • Appoint or run the election for an Assistant Patrol Leader that will fulfill the duties of Patrol Leader in his absence
  • Represent the Patrol at the PLC and report back to the Patrol about what occurred at PLC
  • Help plan and lead patrol meetings and outings
  • Help other members of the patrol earn rank advancement
  • Help the patrol work toward the Honor Patrol award
  • Wears the Scout uniform correctly
  • Sets a good example
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Scout Law
  • Shows Scout spirit

Assistant Patrol Leader

Job Description: The Assistant Patrol Leader leads the Patrol in the Patrol Leader's Absence.

Requirements: Any Scout may be the Assistant Patrol Leader. Some Patrols let the Patrol Leader choose the Assistant, but most of our Troop lets the Patrol Leader runner up be it or have a completely separate election for the Assistant.

Duties:

  • Helps the Patrol Leader plan and lead Patrol meetings and activities
  • Helps to keep the Patrol members informed
  • Helps the Patrol prepare for Troop Activities
  • Represents the Patrol at PLC meetings when the Patrol Leader cannot attend
  • Acts as Patrol Leader in his absence
  • Wears the Scout uniform correctly
  • Shows Scout spirit
  • Sets a good example
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Scout Law

Troop Guide/Instructor

Job Description: The Troop Guide/Instructor does two main things: welcomes the Webelos and new scouts and teaches the new Scouts their Scout skills

Requirements: To be Troop Guide/Instructor you should be a First Class Scout

Duties:

  • Instruct members of the Troop in Scout skills as needed
  • Work with the PLC in planning meeting programs and arranging for materials that are needed
  • Set up learning situations for new Scouts to work on Scout skills and advancement
  • Work with the New Scouts to help them transition into the Troop
  • Help the New Scouts with their advancement through First Class
  • Wears the Scout uniform correctly
  • Shows Scout spirit
  • Sets a good example
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Scout Law

Chaplain's Aide

Job Description: The Chaplain's Aide works with the Troop Chaplain to meet the religious needs of Scouts in the Troop. He works to promote the religious emblem program.

Requirements: There are no requirements for being the Chaplain's Aide

Duties:

  • Assists the Troop Chaplain with religious services at campouts and other activities
  • Tells Scouts about the religious emblem program for their faith
  • Makes sure religious holidays are considered during Troop program planning
  • Helps plan for religious observance in Troop activities
  • Wears the Scout uniform correctly
  • Shows Scout spirit
  • Sets a good example
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Scout Law

Quartermaster

Job Description: The Quartermaster keeps track of Troop equipment and sees that it is in good working order.

Requirements: There are no requirements to be the Quartermaster.

Duties:

  • Keeps records of the Troop equipment
  • Makes sure the equipment is in good working order
  • Issues equipment and makes sure it is returned in good order
  • Makes suggestions for new or replacement items
  • Works with the adult in charge of equipment
  • Wears the Scout uniform correctly
  • Shows Scout spirit
  • Sets a good example
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Scout Law

Scribe

Job Description: The Scribe is in charge of keeping records and notes of PLC meetings as well as working with the treasurer

Requirements: There are no requirements for being Scribe.

Duties:

  • Keep records up to date
  • Act as secretary for PLC
  • Make sure people pay their dues
  • Work with the treasurer and secretary
  • Wears the Scout uniform correctly
  • Shows Scout spirit
  • Sets a good example
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Scout Law

Historian

Job Description: The Historian reports on Troop activities at the Court of Honor.

Requirements: There are no requirements to be Historian.

Duties:

  • Report on Troop activities at the Court of Honor

Librarian

Job Description: The librarian keeps track of Troop Merit Badge books

Requirements: To be the librarian, a Scout must come to all of the Troop meetings.

Duties:

  • Keep a library of Merit Badge books and other materials for Troop materials available to be checked out
  • Keep track of who has what books and make sure they return them
  • Keep and inventory of all library materials

Order of the Arrow Troop Representative

Job Description: An Order of the Arrow Troop Representative is a youth liaison serving between the local OA lodge or chapter and his troop. In his troop, he serves as a communication and programmatic link to the Arrowman and adult leaders and Scouts who are not presently members of the Order. He does this in a fashion that strengthens the mission of the lodge and purpose of the Order. By setting a good example, he enhances the image of the Order as a service arm to his troop.

Requirements: The Order of the Arrow Troop Representative must be a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Duties:

  • Serves as a communication link between the lodge or chapter and the troop.
  • Encourages year round and resident camping in the troop.
  • Encourages older Scout participation in high adventure programs.
  • Encourages Scouts to actively participate in community service projects.
  • Assists with leadership skills training in the troop.
  • Encourages Arrowmen to assume leadership positions in the troop.
  • Encourages Arrowmen in the troop to be active participants in the lodge and/or chapter activities and to seal their membership in the Order by becoming Brotherhood members.
  • Sets a good example
  • Wears the Scout uniform correctly.
  • Lives by the Scout Oath, Scout Law and OA Obligation
  • Shows Scout spirit
